I studied at the Academy Minerva in the heyday of Northern Realism. I inhaled the teachings of Ben van Voorn in particular. When I look back on the work of my final year and the years after, I especially notice his influence. In those years I felt the most comfortable with watercolour, the technique taught by Ben.
This style lasted until about 1987. In that year, in Zealand, I attended with fellow landscape architects a course in painting in relation to design. Peter Schenk was the teacher. Under his influence, my style became more open, leaving more space for the stroke.
